Not long ago I saw a television documentary on the rise of the Third Reich in Germany. I have, in addition, read any number of books on the period of the 1920s and 30s. The lesson it teaches is that the Nazis did not suddenly arise, take control, and impose a totalitarian government on Germans. It was a matter of slow progress until October 29, 1929 when the U.S. stock market crashed. read on

Or perhaps more aptly, the first victory in a long time for Wisconsin taxpayers.
After legislative Democrats convened a lame duck session at the behest of outgoing Gov. Doyle to ratify 17 public employee contracts, it was assumed they had the 11th hour votes. They were effectively tying the hands of Governor-elect Scott Walker and the incoming Republican legislative majorities, who rightly insisted on maximum flexibility in dealing with the state’s $3.3 billion overspending problem. read on

Former Godfathers Pizza chief executive Herman Cain says he’s definitely forming an exploratory committee — likely within the next several weeks — to test the waters for a possible Republican presidential run in 2012.
Cain, a radio talk show host and favorite of the Tea Party movement, confirmed the news in an interview with The Daily Caller. He suggested that a presidential campaign is likely, but said he hasn’t made a final decision.

According to Politico’s Ben Smith, the Obama administration has purchased top billing to divert internet surfers away from antagonist websites to a new “sponsored link” — the Department of Health and Human Service’s (HHS) healthcare.gov:

Outpouring of Tea Party opposition stops $1.3 trillion pork-stuffed spending bill dead in its tracks
By Freedom Works
WASHINGTON, DC- Congressional leaders gave taxpayers an early Christmas present Thursday when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid yielded to tremendous Tea Party opposition and shelved the pork-stuffed $1.3 trillion spending bill he had tried to ram through the lame-duck Congress.
“The death of this massive spending bill is a major victory for the Tea Party and all Americans concerned with the reckless expansion of Big Government,” said Matt Kibbe, president of FreedomWorks. “Congress could not ignore the sweeping rejection of out-of-control spending in the 2010 midterm elections by sneaking this spending binge through the lame-duck session.”
The bill had measured at almost 2,000 pages long, and would have cost taxpayers an estimated $575.13 million per page. Several Senate Republicans had indicated they would support the bill, but FreedomWorks alerted and mobilized its grassroots members, who overwhelmingly opposed the wasteful spending. The outpouring of disapproval convinced many of those senators to side with principle over pork and withdraw their support of the measure. read on

Rising entitlement spending is already driving the federal budget off a cliff. But Obamacare would add fuel to the fire with the largest entitlement expansion since the 1960s. So it takes a special kind of audacity for Obamacare’s apologists to continue to insist that the new law will cut the projected budget deficits. Evidence clearly shows otherwise.
For starters, the supposed deficit reduction over the next decade is built on standard budgetary smoke and mirrors.
